HELLLLLLLPPPPPPP! I’M on FIRE and there is NO WATER IN SIGHT!!

Let’s first go to the word and look at 1 Corinthians 7:9 in a few of my favorite Bible translations….

1 Corinthians 7:9 New Living Translation (NLT)
9 But if they can’t control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It’s better to marry than to burn with lust.
1 Corinthians 7:9 The Message (MSG)
8-9 I do, though, tell the unmarried and widows that singleness might well be the best thing for them, as it has been for me. But if they can’t manage their desires and emotions, they should by all means go ahead and get married. The difficulties of marriage are preferable by far to a sexually tortured life as a single.
1 Corinthians 7:9 Amplified Bible (AMP)
9 But if they have not self-control (restraint of their passions), they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame [with passion and tortured continually with ungratified desire].
When looking at all of these versions, Paul is talking to the church. Paul was content with being single but he realized that the gift of singleness is NOT for everyone. You have sexual desires and a FIRE that is burning up inside of you. You feel like you are a volcano that is about to erupt. You’ve made up in your mind that you DO want to be married. Now what?? There is NO man or woman in sight that you can marry. It’s like being ON FIRE and there isn’t a fireman in sight. What do you do now? These are questions that many single Christians ask God. You’re striving to do the right thing and flee fornication but you have sexual desires that don’t seem to want to disappear. You meet that man or that woman and that person seems to be really nice, but more than anything you can’t ignore the fact that that man/woman is soooooo FINE! You don’t want to look at that person with a lustful eye, but you are human, aren’t you? You’re not a robot, it’s perfectly NORMAL to desire someone. 1 Corinthians 6:18 (KJV) says, “ Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” As a single Christian it is CLEARLY stated in the word that fornication is forbidden. So, the question many ask is, “If I’m not able to have sex outside of marriage and there are no eligible love interests, then what am I supposed to do?” I wish that I could give you some INCREDIBLE revelation that would help you in your journey but unfortunately I have one AMAZING solution to your problem and that is…… PRAYER. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 (Message) says, “Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens.”  When the enemy tries to throw temptation your way…..PRAY! I PROMISE you that God will give you a way of escape. Because of the fact that our world is so sexually driven these days and sex is EVERYWHERE…..on TV, in movies and in music I am NOT going to tell you that it will be easy to abstain. I LOVE these song lyrics which say, “Nobody told me that the road would be easy but I don’t believe he brought me this far to leave me.” As Christians, many times God places us in uncomfortable positions to see if we will TOTALLY lean and depend on him. The WONDERFUL thing is that with the Holy Spirit on your side you can conquer ANYTHING!!! You have the GREATER one on the inside of you so there is NO problem too difficult for God to help you deal with. Keep that FIRE of sexual desire down by PRAYING, LIVING in the Word and TRUSTING that God has an AMAZING spouse for you that He will present to you in HIS timing. More than anything, NEVER forget that God is WITH YOU and that He LOVES you.
Love You LIKE CRAZY,
Christian Joy
